Here at Just Electricians, we make the process as simple and easy as possible for you by answering some frequently asked questions.

Current electrical regulations BS7671 state that at least every 10 years house wiring should be inspected and tested.

This is dependent on the size of the property but usually it takes a few hours. Inspections are always carried out with a minimum of disruption to you and during normal working hours.

This is part of a HSE (Health and Safety Executive) guideline that states all portable and handheld equipment must be well maintained and in full working order. Following the inspection results must be logged for future reference.

Electrical installations in homes and flats are now subject to new building regulations – namely Part P. This regulation will be enforced by local authorities and failure to comply is a criminal offence. The law states that:- ‘Fixed electrical installations in dwellings shall be suitably designed, installed, inspected and tested so as to provide reasonable protection against their being the source of a fire or a cause of injury to persons.’

To comply with Part P regulations you must register with a government approved scheme which allows the work to be self certified by an NICEIC Approved Electrician, or you must inform the local authority so they can begin proceedings. Liaising with the local authority is generally a little more drawn out.

A complete rewire on an average three bedroom house should take between two and four days, however the time it takes to rewire a property depends on a number of things such as:

  • Is the property empty?
  • Is the property occupied and full of furniture etc.?
  • What is being rewired i.e. the number of sockets and lights etc.?
  • Full employers liability insurance

Due to our experience we can completely minimise the disruption and disturbance to you and your property throughout the rewiring process and will strive to maintain a working electrical system if you are planning on living in the property whilst works are undertaken.
We take great pride in the presentation of our work and fully understand the importance of treating your property as though it were our own.
